Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does the Force Flow Electric Supercharger
work with diesel engines?
Yes it does work in the same way as petrol engines. If you have
any concerns, please email us at info@force-flow.com
2. My car runs of LPG, will your intake
supercharger work?
Short answer is yes, positioning of the unit on the intake however
is important, please email us if you have any concerns.
3. I have a carburetted engine, can I still
use it?
Yes of course. Installation may require a few small mods if you
don’t have an intake pipe feeding air to the air cleaner/carby.
We can help guide you through the installation.
4. I don’t have much mechanical
knowledge, is it difficult to install?
The Force Flow Electric Intake Supercharger was designed as a
simple bolt on modification that could be installed by just about
anybody. In most cases it takes little more than an hour for an
amateur to install and doesn’t require any specialist knowledge
or tools. Full installation instructions are supplied and we are
more than happy to help you if you get stuck. If you don’t
feel comfortable and prefer to let a professional install it for
you, we have a list of Recommended Installers who can do the job
for you.
5. Doesn’t the impellor fan block
the intake and restrict the air flow?
No it doesn’t. The Force Flow 4.0 inlet flow area is 95mm
wide, so with that size inlet minus the area that is blocked by
the motor, the inlet area is actually larger than that of your
standard 3.0 inch (76mm) intake pipe. So even if you installed
the unit and never switched it on, you would have a far more effective
intake system than your stock setup. Having this inlet area big
enough was one of our biggest design features, as it is the flaw
of some other Electric Supercharger units available on the market
today.
6. Why is it recommended that it only switches
on at full throttle, can I run it all the time? Basically,
unless you have your foot flat on floor and the throttle is wide
open, no amount of air you pump in will get through. Think of
it like a flood gate, if the gate is only half open and you try
and pump 5 times more water through the gate, the entrance to
the gate will just flood with water. In the case of the throttle
taking in air, the same thing will happen, the air will just flood
at the entrance of the throttle body and all the way back through
the intake pipe. Not until you open the throttles gate all the
way open can the air flow freely into the manifold. Knowing that
the Electric Intake Supercharger is only going to be on at WOT
(wide open throttle) for 10 or maybe 15 seconds at a time, we
have designed our motor to get maximum power for its size for
that amount of time only. So using the Electric Intake Supercharger
when it is not needed will only decrease the lifespan of the unit
and give you no gains.
7. I don’t think your electric intake
supercharger will fit, what do you think?
The Force Flow Electric Intake Supercharger can basically
be adapted to any engine. If you want advise on the performance
gains or installation method for your vehicle, please email us
first before purchasing and we can give advise.
8. Do I need to upgrade gaskets or any
other engine internals?
No you wont need any engine internal modifications to run the
Force Flow Electric Intake Supercharger. Most stock engines could
withstand gains of at least 4-5 PSI before you would need to start
changing internals. The Force Flow system is designed as an entry
level bolt on mod for horsepower and acceleration gains without
spending thousands on a traditional turbo or belt driven supercharger.
There are however some modifications that will compliment the
Force Flow system including installing a Fuel pressure Regulator.
Please email us at info@force-flow.com if you need advise.
9. Can I use a dump valve/BOV (blow off
valve)?
No. Other than the cool sound that blow off valve/dump valves
are famous for, they actually serve a purpose, to release pressure
in the turbo system at gear changes. The Force Flow system does
not create enough pressure to need the pressure release. The pressure
created by the Force Flow Electric Intake Supercharger actually
decreases slightly as the revs of the engine increase.
10. How much will the power increase on
my car?
The gain in performance gains differ from car to car depending
on vehicle make, engine size, intake type and many other factors.
Gains from small engines of about 1.5 litre have been seen higher
than 10% but we like to safely say around 7%. On larger engines
around 4.0 litres displacement, we suggest average gains will
be around 4-5%.
11. I have a cold air intake pipe already
fitted, can I still fit it?
Yes you can. The unit will mount by cutting out a section of your
cold air intake and replacing with the Electric Intake Supercharger.
Alternatively if you have room, you can mount on the end of pipe
where your pod filter is and then the pod filter will just mount
onto the inlet of Electric Intake Supercharger.
12. How will this affect my fuel economy?
Whilst the unit is engaged your engine will use more fuel, but
you would only buy this unit knowing you are going to be putting
your foot on floor looking for more speed in which case you don’t
mind using more fuel. However, when the unit is switched off (98%
of the time), you will actually get a gain in fuel economy. The
fan in the Electric Intake Supercharger creates an atomising effect
on the air being drawn and therefore the air burns more efficiently
and cleaner. We do not have any figures to prove this claim but
we suggest that you could possibly use approximately 10% less
fuel with the Force Flow Supercharger installed and not used.
13. Can I use my current pod filter or
do I need to buy the Force Flow one?
In most cases, the Force Flow Electric Intake Supercharger will
mount to your 3 inch intake system with a 4.0 inch – 3.0”
reducer and the 4.0 inch mouth pod filter fits straight onto the
inlet of the Intake Supercharger. In this case you will need a
4.0 inch mouth filter from Force Flow or another supplier. If
you are mounting to your cold air intake and already have a 3
inch pod filter, you will not need our filter. You can also purchase
3 inch mouth pod filters from the Force Flow range if you need.
